The Annika Tutoring Center

Learning Beyond the Classroom

In the heart of Guayaquil, Ecuador, the FAHUM Annika Tutoring Center is a vibrant hub where education comes alive. With support from Humanity Corps, the center offers children a safe and inspiring space to explore, discover, and grow—both academically and personally.

A Center Designed for Curiosity

Renovated in 2024, the Tutoring Center is now home to interactive learning stations designed to make education exciting and hands-on:

  • 🌍 The World – Explore geography, seasons, and the solar system

  • 🇪🇨 Ecuador – Connect with local history and cultural identity

  • 🧬 Science Lab – Discover cells, the human body, and the wonders of biology

  • 🎨 Art & Music – Express creativity and find joy through the arts

These interactive stations spark curiosity, build confidence, and deepen students’ understanding of the world around them.

A Safe Haven in the City

Ecuador continues to face serious challenges—from political instability and economic hardship to rising gang violence. In cities like Guayaquil, families live with daily uncertainty, and parents are deeply concerned about their children’s safety and future.

That’s why the FAHUM Tutor Center matters now more than ever. It offers:

  • 🏠 A safe, welcoming space where children can learn, play, and just be kids

  • 🛡️ A refuge from the instability surrounding them

  • 🌱 A place of transformation for both children and their families

At the Tutor Center:

  • 👨‍👩‍👧 Parents attend workshops on parenting, resilience, and family wellbeing

  • 🌟 Children are encouraged to explore, grow, and dream of a better future

  • 🧠 Emotional Support – Free, voluntary counseling helps students process emotions, build resilience, and navigate personal challenges with professional guidance

The need is growing. FAHUM’s vision is to open the center daily—and expand access to include children beyond the scholarship program. With your support, that dream becomes possible.

Growing a Love of Reading

The Reading Enhancement Program includes a growing library and a reading instructor who helps young readers develop literacy skills. With fun incentives and regular activities, children are encouraged to check out books, build reading habits, and expand their imaginations.

Health & Hygiene Support

Helping students thrive starts with meeting basic health needs. Through our partnership with FAHUM, every scholarship student receives regular deworming treatments as part of their ongoing care.

In communities where parasitic infections are common, this simple intervention can make a big difference.

Here’s how it works:

  • 💊 Regular deworming treatments help improve focus, energy, and overall well-being

  • 🏫 Health services are coordinated with school schedules, minimizing disruption to learning

  • 🏠 Treatments are provided on-site—often at the Tutor Center—making access safe and convenient

  • 💰 No extra cost to families, removing yet another barrier to learning

Healthy kids are better learners. By addressing preventable health challenges, we give students their best shot at success—in and out of the classroom.

Help Us Expand

We are currently seeking funding to sustain the Reading Program and expand to keep the Tutor Center open throughout the week. Your support helps provide not just learning materials, but a space where kids can dream, explore, and thrive. Please make a donation today.
